Penpoint Gunnels live mainly in the intertidal zone where they look for mollusks and small crustaceans. The long, slender body of the Penpoint Gunnel is a characteristic of all gunnels. Their main identifying feature is a row of dots or pen points that run down their lateral line. Another feature to help with identification is the lack of distinct markings along their dorsal fin.
