One of many Rockfish species in the Salish Sea, the Quillback Rockfish has a couple prominent identifying features. First, the back half of the Quillback Rockfish is black, almost as if it has been dipped in paint, with a hardly noticeable lateral line. Secondly, its front dorsal fin has very pronounced quills. Like all rockfish, the Quillback Rockfish is a member of the scorpionfish family.
